Natalie Herman

Natalie Herman, 86, of Springfield died Jan. 13, 2014. Formerly of Newark, Springfield, and Watchung, she returned to Springfield in 2009.

A graduate of Newark’s Weequahic High School and Berkeley Secretarial School, Mrs. Herman worked as a legal secretary and, many years later, put these skills to use at her daughter’s practice, Summit Hearing Aid Center. She was also the head designer of Lorelei Designs, making necklaces.

She was a world traveler and shared this passion with her grandchildren, taking then on trips to London, Paris, China, Italy, Costa Rica, and Israel. She was also an avid bridge, mahjong, and canasta player.

Predeceased by her husband, Richard, the boy next door whom she married, she is survived by four children, Leslie Herman, Todd Herman, Scott Herman, and Holly Herman Dickert; two daughters-in-law, Sue Herman and Molly Fink Herman; a son-in-law, Jason Dickert; a sister, Marilyn Gries of Florida; and five grandchildren.

A celebration of her life was held Jan. 24. Memorial contributions may be made to New Eyes for the Needy, Short Hills.
