Muriel Katz
Muriel Helen Goldberg Katz, 89, of Scottsdale, Ariz., died March 5, 2012. Born in Paterson, she formerly resided in Teaneck, Verona, Bloomfield, and Newark before moving to Tucson, Ariz., a few years after she and her husband retired.
Mrs. Katz worked as a guidance counselor at Northern Valley Regional High School for over 20 years. During World War II, she worked for the Social Security Administration. While her children were growing up, she worked as a nursery school aide, a camp counselor at Camp Belle Day Camp, a teen group leader at the Jewish Community Center of Verona, and as a substitute teacher.
She graduated from Montclair State Teachers College, where she also received her master’s degree in guidance counseling in 1967.
For many years, she was involved in numerous volunteer activities.
She is survived by her husband of over 67 years, Howard; her daughter, Susan; her son, Michael of Princeton; three granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held March 11 with arrangements by Robert Schoem’s Menorah Chapel, Paramus. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Jersey Y Camps’ scholarship fund or the Alzheimer’s Association.
