Muriel Gelbert
Muriel Wallach Gelbert, 88, of Whippany died March 9, 2015. She was born in the Bronx and lived in Brooklyn before moving to Glen Rock, Wanaque, and Asheville, NC.
Mrs. Gelbert was active in the Glen Rock Jewish Center, serving as sisterhood president for two terms as well as playing the piano, singing, dancing, and acting in many musicals and shows. She also was a camp secretary at the YM-YWHA of Wayne, where she did painting and drawing.
After retiring to Asheville, she became active in Hadassah, doing the bulletin for five years and teaching Sunday school.
Predeceased by her husband (her high school sweetheart), Sanford “Simmy,” in 2012, she is survived by seven children, Howard, Alan, Lee, Mark, Robert, Neil, and Judith; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services were held March 11 with arrangements by J.L. Apter Memorial Chapels, Dover.
