Muriel Freedman
Muriel Freedman (Feinstein), 96, of Verona died April 14, 2016. Born in New York City, she grew up in New Haven, Conn., and lived in Orange and South Orange for 65 years before moving to Verona.
Mrs. Freedman, with her husband Joel, owned and operated Muriel’s Dress Shop in Orange, where she continued to work until the age of 93.
She was a member of Congregation Beth Torah in Orange, where she was a past president of the sisterhood, and later Oheb Shalom Congregation in South Orange as well as numerous other civic and Jewish organizations. She was a founding member of Crestmont Country Club, West Orange.
Predeceased by her husband, Joel, and a son-in-law, Robert Schachtel, she is survived by her three daughters, Lana Schachtel, Nancy (Steven) Pokotilow, and Dale (David) Pilchman of Livingston; six grandchildren; and 11 great- grandchildren.
Services were held April 17 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to the NICU/Miracle Walk Fund at Saint Barnabas Medical Center.
