Dr. Morris Diener died Dec. 4, 2013. He was born in Newark.
Dr. Diener graduated first in his class from West Side High School, attended Cooper Union Institute of Technology, and graduated from Rutgers University with honors. He worked for the labor department during the 1940 census in Washington, DC, and then went to Tufts Dental School, from which he graduated magna cum laude.
After briefly teaching at Tufts, he volunteered for service in the U.S. Public Health Service attached to the Coast Guard until seven months after VJ day. He returned to Newark to establish a dental practice, which he maintained until his retirement in 1985.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Eugenia; a daughter, Gloria Johnson of Washington, DC; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
