Monroe Ackerman, 92, of Wellington, Fla., died Aug. 15, 2017. Born in Newark, he also had resided in Hillside and Short Hills before moving to Florida 25 years ago.
Mr. Ackerman worked as an attorney in New Jersey.
He graduated from Weequahic High School in Newark. He attended college and law school at the University of Chicago.
He served in the Army Air Force during World War II.
He was an avid Civil War historian.
Predeceased by his wife, Elayne (Kaplan), he survived by his son, Andrew of New York City; his daughter, Allison (Daniel Guberman); a brother, Irving of Los Angeles; and two grandchildren.
A memorial gathering will be held in Florida in September; arrangements were handled by IJ Morris at Star of David of the Palm Beaches, West Palm Beach, Fla. Memorial contributions may be made to ACLU.
