Miriam Melon (Hornstein), 87, of Lauderhill, Fla., died April 20, 2013. Born and raised in Newark, she resided in West Orange for over 30 years before moving to Florida in 1992.
Mrs. Melon worked in the insurance industry for 20 years.
She graduated from Weequahic High School, Newark.
She was involved in fund-raising efforts for autism research in honor of her grandson.
Predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Rubie, she is survived by her children, Michael, Laura and William Melon; two sisters, Frieda Greenstein and Helene Siegal; and four grandchildren.
Services were held April 22 at Star of David Memorial Gardens, North Lauderdale, Fla. Memorial contributions may be made to Soaring Eagles Academy for Autism Spectrum Disorders, 8320 S. Madison St., Burr Ridge IL 60527.
