Miriam Gurvitz
Miriam S. Gurvitz (Sklar), 91, of Reseda, Calif., died Feb. 8, 2014. She was born and raised in Newark and lived in East Orange, Newark, Hillside, and Irvington before moving to Newbury Park, Calif., in 1978, for the next 31 years. In 2009 she moved to Reseda.
Mrs. Gurvitz volunteered at Los Robles Hospital for over 25 years. She also was an active participant in ORT, Hadassah, B’nai B’rith, Shalom Seniors, and Temple Etz Chaim’s Senior Group. She knitted hundreds of hats for members of the armed forces at Goebbles Senior Center.
She graduated from South Side High School, Newark.
Predeceased by her husband, Edward, in 2009, she is survived by her son, Alan of Manahawkin; her daughter, Marsha (Steven) of Simi Valley, Calif.; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were held Feb. 14 with arrangements by Coney Mountain Memorial Park, Camarillo, Calif.
