Miriam Aptekar

Miriam “Rickie” Aptekar (Rickel), 88, of Watchung, formerly of Short Hills and Verona, died Aug. 16, 2015. 

Mrs. Aptekar worked as a medical and lab technician for many years. She graduated from Hillside High School and medical school in New York. 

She volunteered at the Short Hills Rescue Squad and was also president of the Women’s Division at Brandeis University. She was very active with the Springfield Community Players for many years, in both an acting capacity and the chorus. She volunteered at Saint Barnabas Medical Center for 17 years. She also enjoyed dancing and tennis. 

She is survived by her daughter, Kerri (Steven) of Warren; her son, Steven (Donna) of Highland Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. 

Services were held Aug. 18 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
