Michael Botein

Michael Botein, 71, of South Orange died Aug. 3, 2016. 

A professor at New York Law School and director and founder of the Media Center, Mr. Botein was a scholar in telecommunications and cable television regulation and was the author of multiple treatises, casebooks, and articles. He was also a Fulbright Senior Scholar and a visiting professor in law schools around the world. 

A 1966 graduate of Wesleyan University, he earned a JD from Cornell University in 1969 and an LLM in 1972 and a JSD in 1979 from Columbia University. 

He is survived by his wife, Kris Fischer; his son, Matthew Botein (Susan Herzlinger Botein); his daughter, Liz (Ike) Walker; and four grandchildren. 

Services were held Aug. 5 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to the Michael Botein Memorial Scholarship Fund (
