Meyer Burgstein, 96, of Boynton Beach, Fla., formerly of Newark, Hillside, and Warren, died Nov. 18, 2018.
Mr. Burgstein was president of United Markets, a supermarket chain of 12 Foodtown supermarkets in Newark, Parsippany, and Berkeley Heights.
He graduated from Weequahic High School, Newark, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, receiving a degree in electrical engineering.
He served in the U.S. Army as a lieutenant in World War II.
He was active in the food industry as former president of New Jersey Food Council, president of Twin County Grocers, and president of the Food Industry Division of B’nai B’rith.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Norma; his son, Glen; his daughter, Diane (Alan) Sklar; and a grandson.
Services were held Nov. 23 with arrangements by Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, Boynton Beach. Memorial contributions may be made to the Valerie Fund, Maplewood.
