Merrill Krakauer
Merrill Krakauer, 86, of Boca Raton, Fla., died May 21, 2014. Born in Brooklyn, he moved to Short Hills in 1975, and after 2009 resided mainly in Boca Raton while also maintaining a part-time residence in Short Hills.
Mr. Krakauer, a businessman and engineer, was for many years the CEO of Rowe International of Whippany, then the largest manufacturer of vending machines in the country. He also held foundation patents for vending machines that remain widely utilized to this day.
He earned a BS in engineering from Cooper Union in New York City.
Predeceased by his wife, Janet (Singer), he is survived by two sons, Bryan (Marie) Krakauer of Chicago and Matthew (Amy) Lefkowitz of Millington; his daughter, Elayne Krakauer of Miami; a brother, Stewart Krakauer of California; and two grandchildren.
Services were held May 25 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.
