Mendel Blumberg

Mendel Blumberg, 95, of Whippany died Feb. 11, 2015. Born in Fort Kent, Maine, he lived in Lake Worth, Fla., before moving to Whippany four years ago.

Mr. Blumberg worked as a mailman for the U.S. Postal Service in Hallandale, Fla., for 20 years until his retirement in 1981. Prior to that, he worked as a race horse trainer in Florida.

He served as an Army corporal in the 809th Combat Engineer’s Battalion during World War II and saw action in North Africa, Italy, and France. During his four-year army career he took part in four invasions.

He is survived by his sister, Rachael Fendell of Edison, and many nieces and nephews. 

Services were held Feb. 15 with arrangements by Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, Madison.
