Melvin Kaplan
Melvin Kaplan, 89, of Elmwood Park died July 5, 2016. Born in Manhattan, he resided in Elmwood Park for 59 years.
Prior to his retirement in 2005, Mr. Kaplan worked for Allmake Appliances in Teaneck.
He served in the Korean War on the USS Mississippi.
He was commander of Jewish War Veterans, Lt. J.I. Platt Post 651, Fair Lawn. He was also a past member of Bergenfield JWV Post. He served on the Bergen County Veterans Council as well as other veteran committees throughout the state and county.
He was a member and former vice chairman of the Elmwood Park Planning Board. He also served on the Elmwood Park Rent Leveling Board. He received the Bergen County Executive Volunteer of the Year Service Award in 1994.
Predeceased by his wife, Millicent, in 1999, he is survived by his children, Samone Kaplan and Felice (Alan) Preefer; and two granddaughters.
Services were held July 7 with arrangements by Louis Suburban Chapel, Fair Lawn. Memorial contributions may be made to Millicent C. Kaplan Endowment Fund for Children’s Programs at the Elmwood Park Library.
