Meir Panim aids Israel’s hungry

MEIR PANIM helps the 1.8 million Israelis living in poverty through a network of restaurant-style soup kitchens, meals-on-wheels, after-school youth clubs, school lunch programs, and prepaid food card distribution.

Many of the diners in the soup kitchen are elderly and their lunch at Meir Panim is their only social interaction.

“I immigrated to Israel from France 15 years ago,” said Sophia, a diner who explained that she lives alone and has no living family members.

“Because the workers are so respectful, people who need food are not ashamed to come here to a soup kitchen,” she said.

According to Mimi Rozmaryn, director of global development for Meir Panim, “Meir Panim clients are always telling us that they don’t know what they would do without our help. Our wish for the new year is for Meir Panim to be out of business — we hope that our clients find the safety net and employment they need.”
