Max Barth
Max Barth, 87, of Union died Feb. 26, 2014. Born in Newark, he lived in Union for 58 years.
Mr. Barth and his wife, Bobbi (Hendler), owned Wolff’s Pharmacy in Bloomfield for 42 years.
After graduating from high school at age 17, he enlisted in the Navy and served two and a half years on the Topeka CL 67 stationed in the Philippines. Upon discharge he completed college and went on to Rutgers Pharmacy College in Newark, receiving his degree in pharmacy in 1950.
He was a member of Jewish War Veterans and the Masonic Lodge for over 55 years. He was an active member of AARP No. 4026. For seven years he was a volunteer for the YM-YMHA of Union County and, along with his wife, ran monthly senior bus trips to Atlantic City.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years; his son, Michael of Olney, Md.; his daughter, Fern (Sterling) Foster of Middletown; two brothers, Sidney of Morristown and Benjamin of Westchester County, NY; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held Feb. 28 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
