Marvin Strauss
Marvin H. Strauss, 94, of West Orange died Oct. 16, 2017. Previously he lived in Springfield for 52 years.
Mr. Strauss was a CPA who started his own firm and retired with 60 employees. He graduated from Rutgers University. He served as a search and rescue pilot in the U.S. Army from 1942-45 and flew missions in China, India, and Burma.
He was a community activist in Springfield who led the charge for the creation of the municipal pool, a teen center, and tennis courts. He also lobbied for safety measures ranging from a statewide mandate for street reflectors to seatbelts on buses.
He was active in many civic organizations including the Millburn Lions Club, SCORE, and Union County Development Corp.
Predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Terry, in 2016, he is survived by two daughters, Marsha (Steven) Fiske of West Orange and Linda (David) Singer of Mass.; son, Art of Florida; a brother, Lenny (Anita) of Florida; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held Oct. 18 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to Daughters of Israel, 1155 Pleasant Valley Way, West Orange, NJ 07052.
