Marvin Alpern

Marvin Alpern, 76, of Glen Ridge died Feb. 21, 2013. He lived in Glen Ridge for over 30 years.

Mr. Alpern was a retired senior packaging engineer for the Ethicon division of Johnson and Johnson. He held over 50 patents for surgical suture development

He was an Army reservist veteran.

A member of the National Glass Corvette Association, he drove his 1958 yellow over white Corvette in the Glen Ridge Memorial Day parade.

He collected vintage metal mechanical toys and was an amateur woodworker and carver.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Elaine; his daughter, Robin (Chris) Graves; a brother, Charles; and a grandson.

Services were held Feb. 25 with arrangements by J.L. Apter Memorial Chapels of Cedar Grove. Memorial contributions may be made to the Melanoma Research Foundation or Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
