Martin Litinger
Martin “Marty” Litinger of Monroe Township died July 26, 2011. Born and raised in Bayonne, he lived in Colonia for 35 years before moving to Monroe in 1991.
Mr. Litinger was president of the Amy Gail Ice Cream Company/Crystal Ice Cream and LaSalle Ice Cream Company.
He was a graduate of Bayonne High School and played football with the Bayonne Shamrocks.
He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1942 and served aboard the DE USS Harveson on anti-submarine convoy duty for a year and a half with the rank of quartermaster second class. He was a member of the Jewish Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He served as president of Congregation B’nai Jacob in Avenel; was elected to the Woodbridge Township Board of Education in 1971, serving for eight years, two of which were as president; and served on the Woodbridge Township Town Council as councilman-at-large for five years.
Predeceased by his daughter, Amy, he is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rhoda; two sons, Neal of Paramus and Bruce of Short Hills; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Services were held July 28 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Liver Association or the American Diabetes Association.
