Martin Karlin

Martin Karlin, 94, of Union died May 4, 2019. He was born and raised in Newark.

Mr. Karlin was the owner of a wholesale food distributorship based in Union.

He graduated from South Side High School, Newark.

He volunteered for the U.S. Army Air Corps and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

He served for many years on the board of Temple Beth Shalom.

Following his retirement, he joined the Union Volunteer Emergency Medical Service and became certified as an EMT. Throughout his decades of service, he also raised over $2 million for the squad. He was the recipient of many awards and accolades in recognition of his accomplishments, including having “Marty Karlin Day” designated by the Union Township Committee.

Predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Eileen, and a son, Mark, he is survived by his daughter, Jan (Jeff) of Pasadena, Calif.; and a son, Ross (Karen) of Franklin Lakes.

Services were held May 7 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to Union Emergency Medical Unit, P.O. Box 1773, Union, N.J. 07083.
