Martin Freedman
Dr. Martin Freedman, 90, of Monmouth Beach died Dec. 1, 2010. He grew up in Newark and also lived in Verona.
Dr. Freedman practiced dentistry for over 50 years in Newark and West Orange.
A graduate of Weequahic High School, he received a baseball and football scholarship to Upsala College. He continued his education at University of Pennsylvania Dental School.
He served in World War II.
A piano player, he wrote and published songs when he was younger, most notably “Time Out for Tears,” a #1 hit in 1948, and was an avid sports fisherman and fixture on Long Beach Island for almost 50 years.
Predeceased by his wife, Marion (Lipschitz), he is survived by two daughters, Ronne Freedman of New York City and Amy Hinkel; and four grandchildren.
Services were held Dec. 5 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
