Marilyn Laudenslager

Marilyn Laudenslager (Schachter), 80, of Winslow Township died Feb. 1, 2019. She was born in New York City.

Known then as Marilyn Silverstein, she was a former bureau chief for New Jersey Jewish News’ Princeton Mercer Bucks edition, where she worked for eight years. A lifelong writer and editor, she also worked for 17 years for the Jewish Exponent and for many additional years as a freelancer. She was a recipient of many journalistic awards from the American Jewish Press Association, New Jersey Press Association, and other organizations.

She graduated from Douglass College at Rutgers University.

“Marilyn was dedicated to NJJN and to serving the Jewish community in the best way she knew: through her meticulous and tireless coverage of the Princeton Mercer Bucks region,” said Abby Meth Kanter, NJJN’s former managing editor and now editorial adviser. “Every article she submitted reflected the same high standards of journalistic integrity, the concise but comprehensive writing, and the unwavering attention to accuracy that made her the editor’s delight.”

She is survived by her husband, Richard J. Laudenslager; three sons from her first marriage to Philip Silverstein: Robert, Steven, and Joshua Silverstein; a brother, Harold Schachter; four half-siblings, Judy Miller, Rania James, Bonnie Wassall, and David Schachter; five grandchildren; five stepchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; and 15 step-great-grandchildren.

Services were held Feb. 6 with arrangements by Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, Ewing. Memorial contributions may be made to Female Hebrew Benevolent Society of Philadelphia.
