Maligned NJ
Thank you Johanna Ginsberg for such a thoughtful, extended treatment of my memoir “Savage Feast” (“Cooking up a story,” March 7). I do want to say that I don’t think New Jersey is “insipid,” it’s my grandfather who says so in the book. As a young man, I did want to leave New Jersey sooner rather than later, though that was because I found Wayne specifically somewhat characterless. But I have always appreciated so much about the state, from the hiking to the farms to so much else, that I even once contemplated a tongue-in-cheek nonfiction book called “In Defense of a Maligned State.”
