Lydia Jacobs
Lydia Jacobs, 88, of Monmouth Beach, formerly of West Long Branch, died Feb. 21, 2012. Born in Poland, she immigrated to the United States in 1938, settling in White Plains, NY, and moving to Monmouth County after her marriage in 1944.
Mrs. Jacobs was employed by Consolidated Millinery Company, New York City. She also worked in sales for Macy’s.
She attended classes at Columbia University for two years and graduated from Gaines Business School, New York City.
She was a lifetime member of Congregation Brothers of Israel, Elberon, and served as its sisterhood president for several years. She was also a lifetime member of Hadassah’s Long Branch chapter. She spent three months as a volunteer in Netanya, Israel, in the school system as a reader of English and in an orphanage. She was also a member of the Democratic National Committee.
Predeceased by her husband of almost 40 years, Harold, in 1983, and a grandson, Jason Miller, in 2008, she is survived by two daughters, Suzanne Miller of Solana Beach, Calif., and Maura Resnikoff of West Long Branch; two sons, Glenn of Englewood and Steven of Flagstaff, Ariz.; a brother, Bill Zarkower of Saratoga Springs, NY; and six grandchildren.
Services were held Feb. 23 with arrangements by Woolley Funeral Home, Long Branch. Memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Brothers of Israel or the American Cancer Society.
