Lucille Sondike

Lucille Ladimer Sondike, 89, of Marlboro, formerly of Manalapan, died April 5, 2012. Born in Brooklyn, she lived in Queens for many years before moving to Manalapan for 33 years.

Mrs. Sondike worked at the Astoria Center of Israel in Queens, then for the senior vice president of public relations at Macy’s in Manhattan, where she won the prestigious Rolley Award for her contribution to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. She ultimately worked at Queens College.

She was president of Hadassah’s Whitestone chapter. After moving to Manalapan’s Covered Bridge section, she became president for many years of its Hadassah chapter, and also served on the board of the Southern New Jersey Region.

She was also instrumental in helping to initiate Holocaust education into the New Jersey public schools.

Predeceased by her husband, Jack, in January, she is survived by two daughters, Ilene Karp of South Brunswick and Stephanie Margolies of Manalapan; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services were held April 6 with arrangements by Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan. Memorial contributions may be made to Hadassah, American Friends of Magen David Adom, or the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
