Louis H. Kernoff
Louis H. Kernoff, 79, of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, Fla., died March 4, 2011. He was born in New York City and spent most of his early years in Lakewood.
Mr. Kernoff started his career in 1958 in the automobile business. He owned and operated several dealerships in Ocean and Monmouth counties, including Edsel, Dodge cars and trucks, American Motors, Jaguar, and Jeep. He then went on to build sales and service facilities for other dealers, retiring in 1995.
He graduated from Lakewood High School in 1949 and the University of Miami in 1954.
He served in the armed forces and was honorably discharged in 1956.
He was a major stockholder and vice chairman of the board of Ocean Independent Bank in Ocean, which he eventually sold to Sovereign Bank in Deal.
He was a member of Hollywood Golf Club in Deal for over 20 years and was most recently a member of Coral Ridge Country Club in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara; his son, Bret of Burlington, Vt.; three daughters, Patti Floum of Hamden, Conn., Kathy Spirer of North Potomac, Md., and Jamie Bohm of Colts Neck; and 10 grandchildren.
Services were held March 6 with arrangements by Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice Care of Southeast Florida.
