Local clergy protest Trump’s DACA policy
RABBI JESSE OLITZKY of Congregation Beth El in South Orange participated with other area clergy in a Sept. 6 rally in Newark protesting the Trump administration’s announcement the previous day ending DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals). Rally participants demanded that New Jersey’s congressional representatives block President Donald Trump’s proposed increases in the 2018 budget for detention and deportation.
About 100 people, including Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), joined the protest organized by immigrants’ rights groups that took place outside of the federal building.
Other participating clergy included Reverend Timothy Graff from the Archdiocese of Newark; Reverend Seth Kaper-Dale, senior pastor at the Reformed Church of Highland Park; and Reverend Robin Tanner from Beacon Unitarian Universalist Congregation.
