Limits of Jewish advocacy
“NJ synagogues stand ‘ready to help’ immigrants” (July 18) is not front-page news. In fact, it is not news at all. Synagogues are always ready to help those in need. They are not so ready to help those who need help to protect themselves from Arab terrorists and those who choose to demonize Jews and Israelis.
For instance, an intense dislike for Pres. Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will result in a furious outcry over their remarks or policies, but comments by Representatives Rashida Tlaib or Ilhan Omar will not resonate. Strong advocacy for fellow Jews has never been a strength of NJJN.
