Leta Bagdon
Leta Bagdon, 82, of Lyman, NH, died Feb. 12, 2012. Born in Newark, she lived in Maplewood until age 18. She moved to Lyman in 1994.
Dr. Bagdon was one of the first certified developmental pediatricians when the subspecialty was established, and practiced for 45 years. She was director of developmental pediatrics at United Hospital, Newark, where she cared for thousands of children over the years. She also was on the teaching staff of The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Newark.
After moving to New Hampshire with the intention of retiring, she decided to continue in medicine and was a developmental pediatrician at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, for five years.
She attended Duke University, Columbia University, and then New York University Medical School, graduating in 1955. She completed a residency at Jacobi Hospital, Bronx.
She spent summers in New Hampshire as a child. She enjoyed hiking, cross country skiing, and teaching in the religious school of The Bethlehem Hebrew Congregation.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Robert E.; her son, Samuel; her daughter, Judith; and six grandchildren.
Arrangements were handled Feb. 13 by Phaneuf Funeral Homes, Littleton, NH.
