Lester Kahn

Lester A. Kahn, 91, of Westfield died Sept. 11, 2014. He was born and raised in Elizabeth. 

Mr. Kahn joined his father in the family business, Michael Kohn Jewelers, which opened in Elizabeth in 1906. He continued on as president and later moved the store to Westfield, where he was an active member of the business community.

He graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy and attended the Peddie School. 

He served as a second lieutenant in the Army Air Corps. As a bombardier during World War II, he flew B-17s with the Royal Air Force out of England. 

Predeceased by his wife, Carole, he is survived by his son, Donald (Joann); two daughters, Patricia (Philip) Einhorn and Nancy (Martin) Fields; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Services were held Sept. 17 with arrangements by Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, Westfield.
