Leonard Cohen

Leonard Cohen, 83, of Rumson died April 5, 2014. Born and raised in Hoboken, he lived in Lakewood for many years until moving to Rumson in 1988.

Mr. Cohen was a real estate broker and land developer in New Jersey. His career started with the formation of Oakwood Realty. Soon thereafter, he was a founding member of Building & Land Technology, a publicly traded real estate development company. He later formed Cohen Schatz Associates, where he continued to work with the largest real estate developers in New Jersey. He was Commissioner of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority under Gov. Jim Florio.

He served as a second lieutenant in the Army after completing Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Ga.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joan F. (Crosby); three sons, Todd (Lynda) of Farmingdale, David of Red Bank, and Glenn of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services were held April 7 with arrangements by Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean.
