Lena Fishman

Lena Fishman, 81, of Bradley Beach died July 15, 2011. She was born in Elizabeth.

Mrs. Fishman, a third-grade teacher for more than 40 years, taught at Wanamassa, Howell, and Bradley Beach elementary schools. She also spent more than 30 years working as a hostess at her son’s restaurants, the Jetty Joint and the Avon Pavilion, where she was known as “Mamma Fish.”

She attended Battin High School for Girls in Elizabeth and Montclair State College.

She volunteered at the Jersey Shore Medical Center thrift shop.

Predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Joey, in 2011, she is survived by her daughter, Beth; two sons, Michael and Robbie; a sister, Mildred Koweek; and a granddaughter.

Services were held July 17 with arrangements by Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean.
