Leaving a bad taste

After just returning home from a weekend at the Farm Sanctuary, a farm animal rescue and advocacy organization, I was even more disturbed by your article, “Food for thought at feast of birds, bugs” (July 29). Instead of slitting the neck of an innocent and terrified animal whose desire to die is no more than yours or mine, you should be challenging your readers to exercise compassion rather than violence at the dinner table. A healthy vegetarian/vegan diet saves animals, the environment, and humans. If not the Jewish people, who should better relate to the premise, “When you save one life, it is as though you save the whole world?”
