Leaders must lead
Congratulations to your reader for being critical of Conservative, Reform, and Reconstructionist rabbis who refused to take President Trump’s call wishing the Jewish people a happy new year (Letters to the editor, “Rabbis: Speak with Trump,” Sept. 21).
Leaders are supposed to lead and not just follow the popular view of the news media and others. What better opportunity for them to lead than by being on the call, raising their concerns, and hearing firsthand the president’s response. They could then share his response with their congregation.
But then again why do that or, as the saying goes, “why bother me with the fact as my mind is already made up.” That certainly is not a trait of real leadership.
