Joseph Tuckman
Joseph Tuckman, 74, of East Orange died March 3, 2014. He was born in Brooklyn.
Mr. Tuckman worked for many years as a manual systems analyst for the State of California and most recently at AIG. He also worked as a grant writer for Newark Emergency Services for Families, The Greater Newark Conservancy, and Bar-Ilan University. He was president of the Barter Foundation of America.
He attended Stuyvesant High School in New York City and City College of New York, where he earned a bachelor’s degree. He also completed part of a master’s degree at CCNY.
He was a veteran who served in Europe in the mid 1960s. In his later years he was an advocate for veterans’ rights, and particularly for homeless veterans and those suffering from mental illness.
He is survived by his son, Chaim Tuckman-Vernon; his former wife, Rabbi Lisa Vernon; a brother, Michael; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews and their children.
Services were held March 5 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston.
