John Savoia
John J. Savoia, 81, of Cranford died March 2, 2015. Born in Newark, he lived in Cranford for 54 years.
Mr. Savoia was an actuary for Prudential Insurance in Newark, then in Florham Park for many years, retiring 25 years ago.
A member of Temple Beth-El Mekor Chayim of Cranford, he was a fund raiser for its men’s club as well as an active board member. He was also on the board of Temple Beth O’r/Beth Torah of Clark, where he ran bingo.
He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine (Talarsky); his daughter, Ilene Pearl of Cranford; three sons, Marc of Haymarket, Va., Scott of Summit, and Andrew of Orlando, Fla.; a brother, Jack Genna of Fountain Valley, Colo.; and eight grandchildren.
Services were held March 4 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to Cranford First Aid Squad, Hadassah, American Heart Association, or Alzheimer’s Association.
