John J. Eros

John J. Eros, 87, of Yardley, Pa., died Dec. 1, 2010. Born in Debrecen, Hungary, he was taken into a Nazi concentration camp in 1944 and was liberated by the U.S. Army in 1945. In 1950 he attempted to escape Hungary, but was jailed for a year. His second attempt in 1956 was successful and brought him to Trenton, where he had an uncle.

Mr. Eros, a certified public accountant, was a partner with J.H. Cohn LLP. He was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

He served on the board of the Jewish Federation of Princeton Mercer Bucks, receiving its Lifetime Achievement award for community service. He was the former president of the Jewish Community Center, receiving both Man of the Year and Lifetime Achievement awards. He served as a trustee and financial secretary of Adath Israel Congregation and was designated its Man of the Year. He was a former trustee of Greenwood House and Abrams Hebrew Academy.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Greenspan Eros, and his daughter, Lynn Eros. His sister, Veronica Eros, died Dec. 3.

Services were held Dec. 3 with arrangements by Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, Ewing.
