Joel Goodman

Joel Goodman of Boca Raton, Fla.; Cranford; and Rock Hill, NY, died April 20, 2014. A native of Newark’s Weequahic section, he resided in Union for 30 years.

After the war, Mr. Goodman married Eleanor Malin and joined her family’s business, Malin’s 5 & 10 in Roselle, which he and his wife operated for over 30 years. During this time he founded Goodman Realty, a real estate firm in Cranford.

He attended Newark University.

A veteran of World War II, he served in Iceland and Europe.

He was active in civic affairs throughout his life. He was a past president of Temple Beth Shalom in Union, chairman for many years of the Union Israel Bond Drive, president of the St. Joseph Baseball League in Roselle, president of the Roselle Senior Citizen Housing Board, and past member of the Cranford District Management Corp.

He is survived by his wife; his son, Gary of Cranford; his daughter, Sue Greenberg of Paramus; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services were held April 23 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
