Joan Lifland

Joan Hollander Lifland, 84, of Montville died Aug. 28, 2013. Born in Orange, she grew up in Maplewood and South Orange and raised her family in West Orange. She then resided in Silver Spring, Md., for over 30 years before moving to Montville two years ago.

For many years, Mrs. Lifland taught French and Spanish at Irvington High School.

She graduated from Columbia High School, Maplewood, and in 1952 from Mt. Holyoke College, where she spent her junior year studying at the Sorbonne in Paris.

Predeceased by her husband, Joe, she is survived by four daughters, Michele Lifland, Sandy Lifland (Barry Rubin), Laurie (Jerry) Levey, and Ellen (John) Bakker; and six grandchildren.

Services were held Sept. 1 at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Hospice, 105 Fieldcrest Ave., Suite 402, Edison, NJ 08837, or National Parkinson Foundation, 1501 NW 9th Avenue, Bob Hope Road, Miami, FL 33136.
