JNF sponsors visit by Arad mayor

ARAD MAYOR Nisan Ben Hamo will speak about the ambitious projects he has initiated in his city and why he believes a half-million Israelis can be drawn to the Negev and the country’s mostly arid South.

In a program hosted by Jewish National Fund-USA, Ben Hamo will speak on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 7:30 p.m. at B’nai Shalom of West Orange.

JNF-USA supports environmental and nation-building activities in Israel through its Billion Dollar Roadmap initiative.

Ben Hamo was born and raised in Arad in a family that was among the city’s founders. A former elite IDF commando and diplomat posted in South America, he now serves as a military reserve unit commander. He was elected mayor in June 2015.

This free event is cochaired by Phyllis Bernstein, Randi Brokman, Jeri Kimowitz, Michael Landau, and Rabbi Robert Tobin. Middle and high school students are invited to meet with the mayor at 7 p.m.; the general program will begin at 7:30 and will be followed at 8:30 by a VIP reception for major donors and Root Society members.
