James Dunn

James “Jim” Dunn, 75,  of Rockaway died Nov. 17, 2011. He lived in Rockaway for over 40 years.

Mr. Dunn held the position of regulatory affairs and product safety manager for Unilever, where he was employed as a research scientist for over 35 years.

He graduated from Queens College and received a master of science degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

He was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force after serving overseas during the Berlin Crisis.

He was chair of the Rockaway Township Water Advisory Committee, a member of the Rockaway Township Civil Defense, and served as a Rockaway Township councilman and council president. Along with Dr. Hazel Howell, Jim helped to create the Rockaway Township Historical Society and worked to list the Ford Faesch House on the Registry of Historic Sites. Most recently, he served as treasurer of the Rockaway Township Library board of trustees. He was the past president of the Fox Hills of Rockaway Home Owners Association.

He also volunteered for Planned Parenthood of Morristown and the Eric Johnson House of Morristown, and was an appointed mentor of the Morris County Court System. He also volunteered to deliver Passover meals on behalf of the MetroWest community’s CareLink project.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sheila (Reingold); two daughters, Wendy Matar and Jessica Benton; and three grandchildren.

Services were held Nov. 20 with arrangements by J.L. Apter Memorial Chapels of Newton.
