Jacqueline Berke

Jacqueline Berke, 94, of Madison died June 13, 2017. She formerly resided in New York City.

Mrs. Berke was Professor of English at Drew University from 1960 to 1992. After retiring, she founded the Drew University Center for Holocaust/Genocide Study, which she directed for many years.

She received a BA from New York University, and received master’s degrees in journalism from Columbia University and in English from Rutgers University.

Predeceased by her husband, Philip A., she is survived by her daughter, Laura Berke (Frank Murphy); her son, Matthew (Edie); two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held June 15 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to The Center for Holocaust/Genocide Study, Drew University, 36 Madison Ave., Madison, NJ 07940.
