Jack Strauss
Jack H. Strauss, 91, of Cranford died Aug. 11, 2014. Born in Vienna, at age 14 he witnessed the destruction of Vienna synagogues during Kristallnacht and later went on a Hadassah Youth Aliyah transport to pre-state Israel. After immigrating to the United States in 1953, he lived in Queens.
Mr. Strauss was retired as the owner of several Ground Round restaurants in New York and New Jersey.
He served as a soldier in Israel’s army during the War of Independence.
He was a member of Temple Emanu-El in Westfield.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anny (Schnapp); two sons, Jeff and Ronald, both of Westfield; his daughter, Vivian Gold of Westfield; and seven grandchildren.
Arrangements were handled by Eden Memorial Chapel, Fort Lee. Memorial contributions may be made to Jewish National Fund.
