Jack Roberts
Jack (Jon Iric) Roberts, 51, of New York died April 15, 2012. He was born and raised in Morristown.
Dr. Roberts was a professor of English literature at St. Thomas Aquinas College for 18 years. He was also a Fulbright Scholar and Lecturer in American Studies at the University of Szeged, Hungary. He also served on the board of examiners for several PhDs.
An author, he was honored in The Best American Poetry 1991. He also wrote an interpretation of a poem by Hungarian poet Juhaz Ferenz.
He graduated from Newark Academy, Livingston. He became an Eagle Scout and won the Chemistry Award. He graduated from University of Chicago with a chemistry degree, and received his PhD in English literature at Rutgers University.
He is survived by his parents, Lila and Peter of Morristown; a sister, Beth Benson of Morristown; and a brother, Michael of Scottsdale, Ariz.
Services were held April 18 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dr. Jon Roberts Commemorative Scholarship Fund, c/o St. Thomas Aquinas College, 125 Route 340, Sparkhill, NY 10976.
