Jack Cohen
Jack Cohen, 95, of Middletown died Feb. 10, 2015. He was born and raised in Red Bank.
Mr. Cohen and his wife Belle were the owners of Cohen’s Department Store in Red Bank, a family-operated business for over 70 years that was begun by his parents, Nathan and Ida Cohen.
He attended public schools in Red Bank and later received his associate’s degree from Monmouth Jr. College, where he played point guard on their basketball team.
During the latter part of World War II, he served as a corpsman in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Philippines.
He was a former member of Congregation B’nai Israel and later of Congregation Beth Shalom in Red Bank.
He was an avid striped bass fisherman in the Shore area and especially loved fishing the areas around the Romer Shoals Lighthouse and the Sandy Hook Bay and Beaches.
Predeceased by his wife, Belle Morgovsky Cohen, in 2007; his daughter, Judith Ann Miller; and his grandson, Jonathan Marc Miller; he is survived by his son, Ronald (Carol) of Howell; a brother, David; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services were held Feb. 13 with arrangements by Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean. Memorial contributions may be made to Monmouth Medical Center Foundation, 300 Second Ave., Long Branch, NJ 07740.
