Isidore Balaban
Isidore “Ike” Balaban, 83, of Monroe Township died Jan. 17, 2012. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, where he also raised his family, before moving to Monroe almost 22 years ago.
Mr. Balaban had a long career as a court clerk for the New York State Supreme Court-Kings County prior to retiring in July 1990.
He was an active member of Congregation Beth Israel in Brooklyn and the Knights of Pythias-Lodge #570 and was named Pythian of the Year in May 1990. He was president of the East Flatbush Civic Association for many years and a member of Local #177-Special Officers and Guards Union.
He was very philanthropic, particularly with his support of the State of Israel, Holocaust education, and numerous Jewish organizations.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Phyllis; two sons, Alan and Mark, both of East Windsor; and five grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 20 with arrangements by Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick.
