Isaak Vekhnis
Isaak Vekhnis of Cranford died March 2, 2013. Born in Novorossisk, Russia, he lived in Riga, Latvia, before moving to Elizabeth in 1993 and then Cranford in 2008.
Mr. Vekhnis worked for Riga Metalworks for 20 years before retiring as a vice president in 1992.
He graduated from Novorossisk Military Academy as a commissioned officer, and served in the Radio Corps of the Soviet Army for 10 years, attaining the rank of captain.
He was a member of Bris Avrohom, Hillside.
He is survived by two daughters, Rashel Potashnik and Betty Vekhnis, both of Scotch Plains; two granddaughters; and a great-grandson.
Services were held March 4 with arrangements by Ross’ Shalom Chapels, Springfield.
