Irwin Been
Irwin Been of Maplewood died Aug. 28, 2013. Born in New York City, he lived in Peoria, Ill., for 63 years before moving to Maplewood 11 months ago.
From 1950 to 1955, Mr. Been worked for Foster Electric Company, and then began working for Caterpillar Tractor Company. He retired in 1988.
He served in the Army during World War II, and was discharged in 1946.
He received an electrical engineering degree in 1950 from Pratt Institute in New York.
He was an active member of Congregation Anshai Emeth in Peoria, serving on the board and various committees and teaching Hebrew. He also volunteered at Proctor Hospital.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruth; two sons, Steve and Ken; two daughters, Carol and Jan; and seven grandchildren.
Services were held Aug. 30 with arrangements by J.L. Apter Memorial Chapels of Cedar Grove. Memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Anshai Emeth, 5614 N. University St., Peoria, IL 61614.
