Irving Kerzner
Irving Kerzner, 87, of West Orange died April 10, 2017. Born in Jersey City, he lived in West Orange for 56 years.
Mr. Kerzner joined his father as a carpenter after graduating from college. He later founded A. Kerzner Inc., a building and contracting firm, and cofounded Kerzner Associates, a development firm. These companies constructed many buildings throughout northern and central New Jersey and are now run by his son Sandy and grandson David.
He graduated from Pratt Institute.
He served as president of B’nai Shalom in West Orange, where he regularly participated in services; the Jersey City Lions Club; and the Hudson Country Contractors Association. He was selected and served as an arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association for over 40 years. He was a trustee for the Hudson County Masons Cement Finishers Union for 27 years.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Hope (Harmelin); two sons, Sandy (Randi) and Alan (Debbie); and four grandchildren.
Services were held April 13 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to Echo Foundation or JDRF (jdrf.org).
