Irene Lindeman

Irene (Mimi) Press Lindeman, 90, of South Orange died June 9, 2016.

A certified appraiser and antiques expert, Mrs. Lindeman, with her cousin Joan Gehl, helped to create and run Joan Gehl, an estate and house sale enterprise. Together, they conducted sales in many New Jersey locations. 

She was a lifelong member of Congregation B’nai Jeshurun, witnessing the congregation’s move from Newark to South Orange and eventually Short Hills. She participated in all programs and organizations and often served on the boards of the Women’s Association, Couples Club, Renaissance Group, Seniors Keep in Touch, and Prime Time.

She also volunteered on behalf of the True Sisters of Fidelity Hulda, had a long membership in National Council of Jewish Women, and was a pioneering member of the Newark Museum.

A strong advocate on behalf of mental illness, she was a member and strong supporter of NAMI (National Alliance for Mental Illness) Essex and Passaic.

Predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Harry, in 2008, she is survived by her daughter, Nancy.

Services were held June 10 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to NAMI Essex/Passaic, P.O. Box 1200, Montclair, NJ 07042 or Congregation B’nai Jeshurun’s Jane Lindeman Greendorfer Pulpit Flower Fund.
